One of the best times for people who live in Buffalo is when the weather goes above 50 degrees. Unlike any other place many Buffalonians will break out shorts and a t-shirt. You can find so many people out walking around in the smaller towns in Buffalo. This week our editors are sharing some of their favorite things to do when the spring weather comes to Buffalo.
Lexi: The first thing I do every year when the weather begins to get warm is open the windows. I love nothing more than to have fresh air in my room. But after that, some of my favorite things to do all revolve around being outside. Going on walks, riding my Razor scooter or just sitting out and having a picnic are all some of my favorite things to do. For me, anything that gives me some time to clear my head with fresh air is what makes me happiest.
Natalie: As the weather starts to get warmer, I really enjoy going out and sitting in the sun! I feel like it makes me feel so much better and happier just being out in the warm air. I’m new to Buffalo but just in general I really love going and sitting in the park and hearing the birds chirp we’re going for a walk.
Emma: I’m kind of a homebody, but when the weather gets warmer I like to move my regular activities outside. Usually, that means bringing my homework onto our deck or relaxing in a chair by the neighborhood pond. One of my favorite spots to visit in Buffalo at this time of year is Glenn Park. The falls and the adjacent trails are beautiful, and they offer a nice spot for a picnic!
Aidan: When the weather starts to get warm my favorite thing to do is go golfing. There’s a bunch of different and great courses in the area that are a lot of fun. It’s a great way to get outside for a morning or afternoon. Personally, my favorite course is the Grover Cleveland course in Amherst. I also really like going downtown to eat outside at a restaurant or go watch a Bisons game on a weekend afternoon.
Lauren: Honestly, I don’t really know what I like to do in the warm Buffalo weather because last year we had to leave when it started to finally get warm. However, lately I have been on some short walks around campus, Forest Lawn and Delaware Park. Also, something as simple as taking your lunch outside can really brighten up your day! Also, Buffalo used to have a lot of fun festivals that will hopefully start up again soon.
Will: Nighttime in winter can be beautiful, but it’s the most hostile time of day for a good chunk of the year; the temperature drops quickly and rudely, the sky is cruelly dark, you’re liable to let your imagination concoct frightening and vile phantoms in the trees, and so on. Warm summer evenings are my favorite time to go walking, hiking, or just hang out with friends outside and listen to the birds and cicadas sing.
Julia: When spring comes in Buffalo, it almost feels like a dream come true. After a long, cold Buffalo winter, the first signs of life, sun and warmth make me incredibly happy. This past week, I’ve been enjoying it by going on walks around the neighborhood with my friends, sitting out in the quad to do homework and driving with the windows down. I’ve been getting some much needed vitamin D these past few days, and this time of year always reminds me why spring is my favorite season.
Steph: Believe it or not, I don’t hate the Buffalo winters. With that being said, I am extremely happy as soon as the nicer weather comes. I love taking my dog for walks; she is old and they aren’t always very long walks, but being outside with her and getting fresh air is always a plus. I don’t go as much as I used to, but I also love being by the water when the weather is nice. I love going to Mississippi Muds with my family to get dinner or even just ice cream and being able to walk around by the water. I’m also hoping to start riding my bike more as well this spring and summer. It’s something I enjoyed in the past, especially with friends, and is something I would like to do more of.
