President John Hurley announced this past Wednesday that commencement ceremonies for Canisius’s graduating classes of 2020 and 2021 will take place in a hybrid format.

To comply with New York State regulations, President Hurley said Canisius can currently host gatherings of 100 people indoors, which will allow for them to offer students the opportunity to participate in smaller “Graduation Walk” ceremonies.

Ceremonies for the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021 will be broken up into separate groups. Canisius will hold separate ceremonies for 2020 undergraduate students and 2020 graduate students. For the class of 2021, undergraduates will participate on a certain, predetermined day, based on their school.

Families and guests will not be able to attend these events. The “Graduation Walk” will be streamed live on Canisius’s website, however.

There will be also a virtual component which will include commencement and student speakers, awards, conferral of honorary degrees and formal degree conferral. This will also include a photo tribute for each graduate.
