With spring semester started and work already beginning to pile on, one of the best ways to take a momentary pause from the busyness of life is by indulging in some sweet treats — specifically, right here at Canisius’ newest food joint, Shoppe 120. Shoppe 120 is a fun candy shop which serves a variety of milkshakes, smoothies, sundaes, floats and ice cream. In addition to these delicious treats, healthy options are also available, including nutritious smoothies with protein powders and protein shakes.
Shoppe 120 is located on the lower level of Palisano. It is open Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. Nowadays, with many students being remote, it’s safe to say there’s not usually a long line. However, in order to avoid any possible wait time, the best option is to download the Boost mobile app or text BOOST to 99299 to get the app. Once downloaded, users can search for Canisius Dining and find Shoppe 120 to customize their order. Besides not having to wait in line, another perk to using this app is being able to schedule a pick up time that works best. Have a 6:00-8:45 p.m. lecture? All you’ve got to do is order on the Boost app before class, schedule for pickup at 8:50 and give them your name when you arrive. Within moments, you’ll have your order in your hands.
This is a perfect place for students and faculty to go and try new eating options. Even though Shoppe 120 is a new addition, campus students are already finding their favorite drinks. “My favorite item to order has been the mango turmeric wellness smoothie. The coconut milk and the banana do a good job complimenting the mango. I also like to order the summer tropics Aqua Fresca. It can go well with just about anything,” sophomore Navi Sandhur said after trying out the restaurant.
But don’t get the wrong idea — Shoppe 120 is not just a drink spot. They also offer a variety of food items to choose from. A few of their most popular items include chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats and ice cream. The ice cream is sold by the pint at $5.75 with a good selection to choose from. The ice cream pint flavors are Northern Lights, Rocky Mountain Raspberry, Cold Brew Coffee and Cream and Panda Paws.
When I visited Shoppe 120 myself, I used the Boost app to preorder a Brownie Blitz milkshake, made from the Perry’s Ice Cream flavor of the same name. Once I got there, I didn’t have to wait for more than a minute before getting my shake. Topped with whipped cream, it was absolutely delicious.
Overall, Shoppe 120 has definitely proved to be a great addition to existing campus eateries. “I’m really happy they put another place in,” Sandhur said. “I’ve always found myself going to the same restaurants since there haven’t been many options before, so hearing about Shoppe 120 opening along with the other places has definitely shed a positive light on the start of this semester for me and my friends.” As we close in on the first year of COVID-19 affecting our campus, it’s always great to see Canisius working to improve the student experience where they can. I have no doubt that Shoppe 120 will become a staple for residents and commuters alike, and I can’t wait to try out the rest of their menu.
