Whole Foods will no longer sponsor Canisius athletics or the Refueling Station in the Koessler Athletic Center, according to the Canisius athletic department.

Wegmans will fill the role of sponsor of the Refueling Station by providing healthy snacks and beverages to varsity athletes. Wegmans is also advertising at home sporting events held in the KAC.

The terms of the deal with Wegmans and Canisius are private.

The partnership with Whole Foods was announced in January of 2019. Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Lisa Liotta told The Griffin then that the partnership was a “mutually agreed upon deal between all parties involved,” and that it was to be “evaluated” after one year.

“Canisius athletics has enjoyed working with Whole Foods, and we appreciate the partnership we had with them over the previous 12 months,” the athletic department said in a statement to The Griffin on Tuesday.

“We are proud to have Wegmans join our growing corporate sponsorship portfolio. We are excited to team with one of the most recognizable brands within Western New York and the northeast region.”
