Local business asks certain clients for no financial compensation, simply a smile
Divinity Holistic and Beauty is a company located at 528 Elmwood Ave. that focuses on holistic and natural services. Nina Hardy started this spa with the goal to empower women, while also building their confidence. Although her initial mission was to help women feel more confident with themselves, she also plans on starting new services that will be open to men.
Hardy provides a holistic service known as yoni steaming and a form of semi-permanent make-up known as microblading. Yoni steaming is a form of hydrotherapy and is an ancient practice that is fairly new to western civilization. During this service, a woman sits over a steaming pot of different herbal blends to help with reproductive issues. Hardy did research herself on this service, but has gone through training for both this and microblading, a process that adds semi-permanent pigment to ones skin, typically used to fill in a woman’s eyebrows.
Hardy has a lot of local clients and a few that have come to see her from out of state. Some of her frequent clients come from Elicottville and Olean, NY. She is open by appointment. She currently provides these two services herself, but hopes to expand before winter by adding both staff members and new services.
She is currently in the process of starting a new program called Pay with a Smile. She recognized that many women who have thyroid issues are going through chemotherapy, or are experiencing health issues that cause hair loss, often find themselves unhappy with their appearance. She also recognized that not every woman who is battling these illnesses has the money to pay for services like microblading to make themselves feel more confident again. This inspired her provide free microblading to select women each month who are struggling with health issues and their self-confidence. Clients have to provide a doctor’s note for insurance reasons.
“I just felt this was a good way to uplift women and make them feel more confident,” Hardy said. “If it’s something as small as me giving three hours of my time to make someone feel great every single day, I feel like that is a great thing to give.”
She also recognized that microblading is a service that is becoming high in demand and is becoming more of a trend in Buffalo. Since it is becoming more popular, it is also becoming more expensive, making it less accessible for some women.
Once she launches the program, she plans on continuing with it, despite potentially not making a profit at the end of the month. “I don’t look at it as losing money at all,” she said. “I am a firm believer in Karma and that what goes around comes around. I may not have the immediate gratification of being paid for it, but somehow, someway, the universe returns everything.”
She hopes to eventually partner with local doctors as well as other organizations such as the American Cancer Society. Her ultimate goal is to find women who can benefit from this service and make them feel like their old selves.
“If it makes someone feel great, that’s worth more than any amount of money I can charge for it,” Hardy said.
Pay with a Smile is a program meant to make women feel confident with themselves while also relieving their stress even if it’s only momentarily.
